Pokemon Sun And Moon Guide: How To Calculate Your Pokemon’s IV

Figuring out the IV of your Pokemon is now easier in Pokemon Sun and Moon. The IV Checker is now a feature in the PC, which can give you an assessment right then and there. While there had always been this kind of feature somewhere within the previous games, this is the most accessible yet.

How To Get The PC IV Checker

One thing, though, it is not automatically available. You have to gain access to the Battle Tree first, per iDigitalTimes. It is located in Poni Island, the last island you will go to. Go to the other end of the Poni Gauntly and you'll find it there.

After hatching 20 Eggs, head over to the Battle Tree and talk to the Ace Trainer. You will then be able to check the IV of your Pokemon right in your PC. Previously, we usually do this by talking to NPCs so having it this accessible is a welcome change in the franchise.

Check The IV Of Your Pokemon

Open your PC and look to the bottom right corner of the screen. There should be a "Judge" button. Clicking it would bring up the stats of your Pokemon, but don't expect numbers. It does not give exact figures, but it is still pretty informative.

It shows the strengths of a certain Pokemon. It can describe each stat as "Best," "Pretty Good," "Very Good," "Decent" and "No Good." These descriptions, like the usual, correspond to real figures, which are as follows: 31, 21-30, 11-20, 1-10 and 0 respectively.

Use An IV Calculator

Serebii.net has an IV calculator set up on its website, so if you don't have access to the Battle Tree yet, you can use it instead. You just have to enter some details of the Pokemon you want to assess like the name (of course), the nature, characteristic and some other stuff.

You will then get details about your Pokemon. Head over here to check out the calculator. It might prove to be useful in your adventures.

How To Manipulate The IV

After reaching level 100, you can manipulate your Pokemon's IV using Bottle Caps. Don't waste these items, though, as they are hard to come by. You can then have your Pokemon go under Hyper Training "to increase their individual strengths, which has never been possible before," says Pokemon Sun and Moon's official website.

You can go to the Hau'oli City Mall to Hyper Train. You can also do this with Mr. Hyper. Bring the Bottle Caps to him who enjoys collecting these items. You can find Bottle Caps by fishing, as rewards or from a trade to 30 Shards. When you have Shards, bring them to an old man in Festival Plaza to get a Bottle Cap.
