HTC One X Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update Arrives

The much anticipated Jelly Bean update for AT&T's HTC One X launched Thursday March 7.

AT&T confused consumers by posting and later removing a blog post explaining the update. We now know from several HTC One X owners, however, that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is currently available. AT&T has since reinstated the blog post.

HTC One X users have a lot to look forward to with Jelly Bean. There's Project Butter, which allows for a smoother UI experience. There's also the Google Now virtual assistant, complete with its useful card interface and expandable notifications. Other features include the ISIS mobile payment function and a countdown timer for the front camera.

In order to obtain the update, simply take your HTC One X while connected to Wi-Fi, select "Applications," "Settings," "About Phone," and "Check For Updates." Then just follow the instructions on the screen.

Since the HTC One X came out in April 2012, owners of the device have been using Ice Cream Sandwich. Jelly Bean came out about three months afterward, putting the device behind.

The update is now fully available for the HTC One X, even though it was released for the phone in other countries previously. The update came to European HTC One X devices almost three months ago. It's been about four months since Asian consumers started getting the update. In the meantime, the HTC One X+ has been made available for AT&T users.

HTC has been struggling lately, with a recent monthly earnings report being the company's lowest since January 2010. HTC is placing a lot of bets on its new hope the HTC One, to be released later this month. HTC recently displayed the upcoming device at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The smartphone won HTC the "Best Mobile Device" award at the conference.
