'Strike Back' Gets A Reboot With Entirely New Cast And Plot; Upcoming Series To Deal With Terrorists

"Strike Back" is coming back to Cinemax with new cast. Cinemax and Sky1 announced on Friday, Dec. 9 that the hit military action series has been greenlit for another season. The newest installment will be the sixth overall and fifth on Cinemax.

Former main cast Sullivan Stapleton (Damian Scott) and Philip Winchester (Michael Stonebridge) won't be coming back in the series due to new commitments. Stapleton is currently starring on crime drama "Blindspot," while Winchester is cast in upcoming legal drama "Chicago Justice."

According to Deadline, the new season of "Strike Back" will feature Section 20, a disbanded team which will be put back together to chase notorious terrorists after a prison break. They will be tasked to do difficult missions, including a manhunt which will expose a vast web of interconnected criminal activity. The team will encounter a deadly conspiracy on their missions in Middle East and Europe.

The new characters for the "Strike Back" reboot include Daniel MacPherson as Samuel Wyatt, a lone wolf type of person who doesn't want to get involved in the team, and Alin Sumarwata as Gracie Novin, a genuine and honest woman who is the soul and heart of the team. On the other hand, Roxanne McKee is cast as Natalie Roberts, a member who excels at profiling. She came from a military family and always seeks others' weaknesses while being blind to her own faults. Warren Brown will play Daniel "Mac" Macallister, a man who wants to take revenge for his previous team.

Some familiar names from the previous seasons will be back in the production. Jack Lothian, who wrote some episodes in "Strike Back" season 4, will be the headwriter and showrunner alongside co-producer Andy Harries (Chris Ryan's Strike Back) and Sharon Hughff from Left Bank Pictures. Michael J. Bassett will be the director and executive producer while Bill Shephard will serve as producer. The upcoming "Strike Back" series will begin filming in 2017.
