Five Upcoming 'Fate' Anime Projects In 2017: Anime Series, Movies And TV Specials

"Fate" franchise is ready to take over 2017 with five upcoming projects. The "Fate" series features the Holy Grail War where the magi, called Masters, summon Heroic Spirits as their Servants. The Masters will battle to death until only one pair is left and the winners will claim the Holy Grail. It originated from a visual novel titled "Fate/stay night" and the series has since been adapted into numerous anime series and spin-offs. Below are the upcoming anime projects for the "Fate" series:

"Fate/Grand Order: First Order"

Set in 2015, this feature-length TV special is produced by Lay-duce based on the game "Fate/Grand Order." It features the Chaldea Security Organization, a group which is trying to prevent the Holy Grail War in 2004 from happening. Chaldea is built to prevent humanity from extinction and the researchers confirmed humanity might vanish in 2017. The cause? The Holy Grail war which happened in 2004. The organization will issue a Grand Order to investigate and uncover the the Holy Grail War in 2004. "Fate/Grand Order: First Order" will be released on Jan. 1.

"Fate/Grand Order: Next Order"

Also produced by Lay-duce, "Fate/Grand Order: Next Order" will be a follow-up for "Fate/Grand Order: First Order." There has been no announcement of the details about the story or format yet but the project will likely to be released in 2017 after the release of "Fate/Grand Order: First Order."

"Fate/stay Night: Heaven's Feel"

This movie trilogy is an alternate retelling of "Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works" focusing on Sakura's relationship with Shirou. Sakura is Rin's younger sister by blood who was adopted by the Mato household and was forced to torturous training to develop magic. She wasn't supposed to join the Holy Grail War but her romantic involvement with Shiro will make her go berserk and make her become a large part of the Holy Grail War. The first film of the trilogy produced by Ufotable will premiere in 2017.

"Fate/Extra Last Encore"

"Fate/Extra Last Encore" is an upcoming anime series to be produced by Shaft inspired by the Fate/Extra PSP game. The series will feature a boy named Hakuno, who wakes up in a strange virtual world without memories of his past. He will be thrown to a new Holy Grail War where the winner will be granted one wish. Together with his enigmatic Servant, he would battle for the possession of the Holy Grail and find out his real identity.

The series was announced during the AnimeJapan 2016. It will be written by "Fate/stay night" creator Kinoko Nasu. Aruko Wada will handle the original character designs. Aside from "Fate/stay night" characters, additional new ones will be added to the series.

"Fate/Kalied liner Prisma Illya Movie"

Right after the finale of "Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA 3rei!!" anime series in September, Silver Link announced that the series will be followed by a movie. "Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA 3rei!!!" follows the story of Ilya who was transported in a parallel world where Miyu was born. Details about the movie plot are yet to be announced but there are speculations that it will tie in Shirou from Miyu's world.
