New Man of Steel Set Photos Reveal 'Modern' Superman

Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is shaping up to easily be the most highly anticipated superhero film since The Dark Knight. In the pantheon of American comic book heroes, there's perhaps no more hallowed a name than Superman, and the promise of a gritty, Nolan-esque take on the franchise is beyond drool inducing.

The current issue of Total Film magazine is packed with some new, hi-res treats for all you nerds out there waiting eagerly for any and all details regarding Warner Bros.' upcoming summer tentpole.

The front-page cover can be found here, and the good folks at Collider were kind enough to upload a few scans of some of the set photos. For the rest, you'll need to pick up a copy of the magazine. Yes, print media lives.

In the article, Snyder, who directed 300 and Watchmen, talks about his interpretation of Superman:

"We've tried to make a Superman movie where he does stuff and you go, 'yeah, if I was Superman, that's what I'd do.' Even though he's an alien, he's more relatable, more human."

There's a bigger difference between you and Superman than hockey pants, but Christopher Nolan's involvement in the project is sure to make the Man of Steel more relatable than he was in the Richard Donner version, or the 2006 reboot helmed by Bryan Singer.

"This is a Superman for a modern age," said star Henry Cavill. "It's not betraying anything that Superman is, but it is grounding everything in reality. It's the story of this incredible being who can do incredible things, but whom we can associate with. Because he's gone through troubling stuff and had to make touch choices."

Man of Steel opens June 14 in 3D. In the meantime, you can check out the official trailer here.
