Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: Jelly Bean Update Delayed Thanks To Exynos Problems

Samsung has announced it will delay updating its Galaxy Tab 7.7 with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 was initially announced as Samsung's first tablet with an AMOLED display two years ago at IFA in Berlin. The tablet also sports a 3MP camera and an Exynos processor.

Problems with the Exynos processor seem to be the root cause of Samsung's delaying the Jelly Bean update to the Galaxy Tab 7.7, according to SamMobile.

"The Update has been sceduled [sic] for May / June this year. There is no further information," SamMobile says.

The good news, SamMobile goes on to say, is that features from the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be included in the Galaxy Tab 7.7 premium suite update.

Ubergizmo reminds us that as Samsung has yet to make an official statement about delaying Jelly Bean for the Galaxy Tab 7.7, we should take such a statement with a grain of salt.

This is a particularly salient point, being that — as Ubergizmo points out — Samsung was the company that made the Exynos processor in the first place, so the (possible) delay rumor sounds "a little odd."

A poster on XDA Developers suggests the roll out of Jelly Bean for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will happen in phases.

"So, it might not yet be available for your country but don't worry the update will arrive soon," the poster says.

However, the posting was made on March 4, so this was more than two weeks before this new statement was relayed.

"Pigs will fly sooner than a 4.1 update for the 7.7. Abandon all hopes--you're stuck with boring old 4.0. I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong, however," another poster says in the forum.

What do you think about all of this ruckus? Is Samsung really holding back the Jelly Bean update for its Galaxy Tab 7.7? Do you even care? Let us know in the comments below.
