T-Mobile's Nokia Lumia 521 Gets FCC Approval

Nokia Lumia smartphones are one of the most popular Windows Phone 8-powered smartphones around. The T-Mobile version of Lumia 520, the Lumia 521, was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 and now the handset has received FCC approval.

Lumia smartphones have appealed to many smartphone owners looking to experience a new operating system and now WP8 devices are rapidly finding popularity with smartphone buyers.

Not many WP8 smartphones are available in the market and the choice for entry-level WP8 smartphones is even less. The Nokia Lumia 521 (RM-917) is an affordable low-end WP8-powered handset and may appeal to many smartphone buyers looking for a pocket-friendly WP8 smartphone.

T-Mobile has not officially announced the smartphone and the release date of the handset is not yet known, but as the Lumia 521 has received FCC approval, a launch date of the device seems imminent.

T-Mobile already carries two mid-range WP8 handsets, Nokia Lumia 810 and HTC 8X, which the carrier offers at $0 on a two-year contract. With the Lumia 521 being an entry-level device, the smartphone buyers will hope that the carrier launches the smartphone for free on a two-year contract.

The features of Lumia 521 are impressive in its category. The smartphone includes a 1GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics. The device sports a 4-inch WVGA LCD display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution.

The handset has 8GB of on-board storage with the option to expand to a further 64GB using a microSD card. The Lumia 521 also has 521MB of RAM. The handset is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1430 mAh battery.

The handset also has Wi-Fi Bluetooth 3.0 and A-GPS. It has AWS connectivity and it looks likely that T-Mobile will market it as a 4G HSPA+ smartphone.
