Samsung Galaxy S2 Now Getting Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update On Alltel

Samsung Galaxy S2 owners on U.S. carrier Alltel are now getting the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software update for the smartphone per reports.

"Great news for the Galaxy S2 owners who are subscribers at Alltel as they are finally receiving a software update that will bring their device up to date, to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean," reports Android Geeks.

With the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update rolling out for the carrier's subscribers, Sprint's Epic 4G Touch now has company and is not the only U.S. Galaxy S2 variant to receive the update.

However, like Sprint, the update is not available over the air (OTA) as the file is too big. Therefore, owners of the Alltel Galaxy S2 will have to download the required files to their PC first via the "Simple Upgrade Tool" and then update the phone after following the instructions. Interestingly, Alltel's version of the Galaxy S2 is skipping the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and owners of the Samsung smartphone will make the jump from Android 2.3.6 to Android 4.1.2.

"This software update will update your device operating system from Android 2.3.6 to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Because we are skipping Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and going straight to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the file will be too large to update over the air and will need to be downloaded to a computer," notes Alltel.

The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software update brings a host of new features and enhancements Galaxy S2 users' way, including performance and battery improvements to the phone. The update also brings features like Google Now, smoother UI courtesy Project Butter, refreshed notification system etc.

If you're an Alltel subscriber, have you updated your Galaxy S2 to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean yet?
