Defiance Syfy TV Show/Video Game Shows Off A Rusty Dodge At New York Auto Show

iTech Post took a trip to the New York International Auto Show on Friday March 29 and, among the great cars featured, we did find one that was somewhat unusual.

Among the pristine models being displayed on the show floor, we weren't expecting to find a rusty, camouflaged Dodge. But those familiar with the upcoming TV show and videogame Defiance might not have been too surprised. Turns out that representatives from the show were displaying the same vehicle they used in the pilot of the program and plan to feature throughout the season.

Defiance is a TV show set to premiere on April 15, 2013. Set in the near future, the show revolves around a conflict set on Earth between humans and an alien species, who have transformed the planet with deadly technology. The focus of the story is on Jeb Nolan, a soldier who finds himself in the middle of the conflict.

But Defiance is also a video game and, in fact, what happens in the show affects the game, a massive multiplayer online third person shooter.

It's a bold move and a massive one, given its large budget. The project brings together gaming company Trion Worlds and the Syfy cable network. The game launches April 2.

It's "a massive $105 million bet on the future of entertainment," states Military.com's "Under the Radar" blog.

The vehicle is actually a 2013 Dodge Charger. Its camouflaged exterior is in fact not a paint job but a sticker. This makes the car look somewhat tacky up front, but representatives at the show claimed that you can't tell the difference on screen. Naturally, we asked about the curious blue light emitting from the hood. The reps stated that the light was indicative of the alternative fuel source used in the show's future.

Time will tell if the Defiance show/game combo proves to be successful. Either way, their vehicle certainly made for a breath of fresh air at the New York Auto Show.
