Apparently, it is worth noting that it occupied the five spots for players per hour. Out of the top five titles, there were four which were also included in last year's shortlisted title, and Team Fortress 2 was also able to win the top players per hour title for the year 2016.

Major e-sports games like DOTA 2 and Counter Strike are not a surprise if they will make into the top spots. GTA: Online is a revenue-generating machine and it continues to push fans to steal the cars of Los Santos. Civilization 6, on the other hand, was not able to beat its predecessor as per average player count.

Meanwhile, Game Rant mentions that the ultimate winner for the last two years as per Steam metrics is DOTA 2. The game was able to retain its top spot in terms of average players per hour and peak players, thus it finished leagues above its competitors in two categories.
