Jurassic Park 4 To Feature Scary New Dinosaur

The upcoming Jurassic Park 4 promises to feature a variety of new dinosaurs, including one that is particularly scary.

The news comes from paleontologist Jack Horner, a consultant for Jurassic Park 4. Horner mentioned to USA Today that one of the new dinosaurs coming to the film would be especially frightening.

"I can't actually tell you what it will be...," Horner said. "But you'll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie."

Of course the standard Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptors will be present, but the film promises a number of new creatures as well. Those behind Jurassic Park 4 will likely be cautious in the new additions, however, given the mixed reception to Jurassic Park 3, where many of the first film's dinosaurs were replaced with new ones.

Further debate on the film centers around the use of digital versus traditional effects. Because of the technology of the time, the original Jurassic Park was based mainly on physical sets and dinosaurs, creating a strikingly real effect. Those behind Jurassic Park 4 may be tempted to go in a digital direction, but would likely benefit from the same sort of techniques Spielberg used in the original film.

Spielberg won't be directing Jurassic Park 4, as newcomer Colin Trevorrow is taking over. The film will come after Jurassic Park 3D, which many regard as simply a ploy to make some extra cash, but which Spielberg maintains will benefit the film artistically.

Jurassic Park 4 opens in regular and 3D versions on June 13, 2014.
