T-Mobile Announces Nokia Lumia 521

While it might not be the Nokia Lumia 928 we told you T-Mobile would be getting soon, the carrier announced that it will carry a new Nokia Lumia smartphone, the Lumia  521. The Nokia Lumia 521 is a low-cost Windows Phone 8 smartphone. The smartphone will be sold in Walmart, Microsoft Retail Stores and T-Mobile retail channels.

The Nokia Lumia 521 features a 4-inch 800 x 480 display, no word on processor, 8GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, HSPA+ 21Mbps radio, and it will be 9.9mm thick. There was no mention of what size battery the Nokia Lumia 521 will ship with. Sources have told TmoNews that the Lumia 521 is solidly built, but feels a little cheaper than higher-end Nokia Lumia smartphones. The source also said the smartphone is very comfortable in the hand.

T-Mobile released the following statement regarding the Nokia Lumia 521:

"T-Mobile will partner with Nokia to bring customers the Lumia 521 - an exclusive to T-Mobile.  Powered by Windows Phone 8, the Lumia 521, which will run on T-Mobile's fast nationwide 4G network, is a perfect, everyday smartphone that will embody a range of high-end features at an affordable price.

The Nokia Lumia 521 features a super sensitive 4" touch screen, 5MP camera with auto focus and 720p HD video recording.  It will also include exclusive Nokia applications such as Nokia Music, Cinemagraph, Creative Studio, Panorama, Smart Shoot and HERE Drive, Maps and Transit.

Beginning in May, the Nokia Lumia 521 will be available through Walmart, Microsoft Retail Stores and T-Mobile retail channels.  Exact availability and pricing of the device will be shared at a later date."

This smartphone could be the perfect entry-level smartphone for anyone that is looking to try out a Windows Phone without paying a high price to do so. Hopefully we'll hear availability and pricing information soon.
