Surface RT And Surface Pro Get Software Update

Microsoft's first lineup of tablets, the Surface RT and the Surface Pro, is getting an April software update to bring enhancements and fix bugs.

The April firmware update for the tablets is the fifth Surface RT cumulative update the company has made since Microsoft launched the Surface RT in the U.S. and Canada in late October 2012.

Many Surface RT users have complained for months that they've had problems connecting to Wi-Fi with their devices. Four of the five firmware updates Microsoft has made to the Surface RT include Wi-Fi connectivity fixes.

The firmware update is supposed to address "limited" connectivity issues, improve Wi-Fi to handle a wide range of access points and resolve system crashes caused by certain Wi-Fi issues.

Microsoft Surface Pro released in the U.S. and Canada in early February this year. The latest April update is the second set of firmware patches for the tablet.

The firmware update for Surface Pro will bring fixes to Wi-Fi reliability allowing for better roaming and improvements to "limited" connectivity scenarios. The update will also resolve issues with the integrated volume button and improve Type and Touch cover typing experience on soft surfaces and when the device and keyboard are lying flat.

The April software update will also resolve issues with random muting and bring trackpad performance improvements.

Your Surface RT or Surface Pro tablet will auto-install the latest firmware update via Windows Update. Updates are cumulative, so you will get all previous updates delivered. If you have a Surface RT, automatic updating is always on, while with the Surface Pro, Windows turns on automatic update during setup unless you decide to turn it off.
