Star Wars: KOTOR Updates: Mandalorian Wars Are Canon Once Again

A lot of fans were dismayed after Disney acquired the rights to "Star Wars" because the company decided to remove all the material from the books and the video games from canon, but it looks like some elements from Knights of the Old Republic have made their way back to the universe. In a recent episode of "Star Wars Rebels," it was confirmed that the Mandalorian Wars from KOTOR was an actual event in "Star Wars" lore.

In the latest episode titled "Trials of the Darksaber," Sabine tries to return to her family and master the use of the ancient weapon known as the Darksaber. The episode covered a lot of history on the Mandalorian Wars and also expounded more on Sabine and her family of House Visla.

Long-time fans of the universe will remember that the Mandalorian Wars originated from the Knights of the Old Republic, and that story arc also involved one of the most popular characters from the expanded universe, Darth Revan. Though the story in the series may not pan out exactly as it did in the game, it's still possible for characters like Revan to find his way into "Star Wars" canon soon. After all, the series had shown its respect for the old expanded universe material by bringing Grand Admiral Thrawn into the mix.

According to Movie Pilot, this wasn't even the first time that the Mandalorian War was mentioned in canon. In the old Clone Wars series, Pre Vizsla had told Obi-Wan that the Jedi won the war with Mandalore. Though the mention may be small, the revisiting of the event in "Rebels" further solidifies the place of the Mandalorian War in "Star Wars" lore. Maybe Disney is having second thoughts about cancelling all of the "Legends" material, and is slowly trying to bring things back? Nevertheless, long-time fans are happy that the series pays respects to its roots, and they're looking forward to more easter eggs in the future.

As of now, the biggest "Star Wars" game that fans are waiting for is Star Wars Battlefront 2 which is speculated to be announced during EA Play which takes place on June 10-12. Hopefully Revan will find his way into canon as "Star Wars Rebels" continues to trudge along.
