Google CEO Slams Trump's Immigration Order, Says More Than 100 Workers Recalled

Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, delivered a sharp memo note on Sunday to more than 100 company staff traveling overseas, which may be affected by a new executive order on immigration from President Donald Trump. Trump has implemented a restriction entry for nationals of seven Muslim countries from entering the United States for the next 90 days.

Pichai unveiled that he is concerned about the measures, which could block great talent from the U.S. The said restrictions will have a major impact on technology companies, especially those who are employing multi-national workers to carry on company's business.

"Our first order of business is to help Googlers who are affected. If you are abroad and need help please reach out to our global security team, we wouldn't wish this fear and uncertainty on anyone and especially not our fellow Googlers," Pichai wrote. He revealed that the company's view on immigration issues be known to the public and a personal cost of Trump's executive order.

The Executive Order On Immigration Restrictions

According to the BBC News, Syrian refugees are banned from entry until further notice and be subjected to the availability of appropriations. The seven Muslim countries under restrictions are Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen.

The controversy order was signed a week after Trump's inauguration. The elected president made a vow to limit Muslim immigration to the U.S. This is an executive action as a part of measures to "Keep radical Islamic terrorists" out of America.

Technology Companies' Stance On The EO

According to the Wall Street Journal, at least 187 Google employees are working in the U.S. and have been affected by the executive order. Google is currently recalling employees who might be affected even though they have visas and legal permits to live in the country.

Google's CEO is not the only giant technology company to speak out. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, wrote that he is concerned about the impact of the recent executive orders and the country should focus on people whose actually posing a threat.
