'Fallout': New Vegas Studio Obsidian Was Working On A Star Wars RPG Before It Got Cancelled

Some gamers can agree that "Star Wars" hasn't been getting as much games as it did before, but news has come out that Obsidian, the studio responsible for Fallout: New Vegas, was working on a Star Wars RPG before it got cancelled. Obsidian CEO Fergus Urquhart talks about what could have been.

Star Wars Meets Dark Alliance

In a recent interview, Urquhart talks about pitching the game to LucaAsrts back when the studio was still alive and kicking. He apparently told them, "What about using the Dark Alliance engine and making a Star Wars action-RPG?" He also emphasized that, despite having multiple games that spanned across several genres, "Star Wars" was yet to have an RPG-type game.

Sadly, LucasArts didn't take the pitch, and the game that was ultimately made was Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Urquhart, however, is still positive about the concept, and says that he is still up for developing "this game or a game like it."

As of now, the Star Wars game that is getting the most buzz is Battlefront 2, a sequel to the DICE-developed game that came out back in 2015. The game is set to release sometime around the holiday season, and fans are expecting a reveal this coming EA Play 2017.

What's In Store For Obsidian

As for Obsidian, the studio is rumored to be working on a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas that will either be called New Vegas 2 or Fallout: New Orleans. Seeing that the Fallout franchise hasn't really revisited places in any of their titles, it's possible that the New Vegas 2 title could be some sort of placeholder before the developers could find a title they're happy with.

Hopefully, whatever Obsidian is working on gets an announcement in the upcoming E3 2017 which takes place from June 13 to June 15.
