White House Correspondents' Dinner 2013: The Best of CoCo And Why Tom Brokaw Didn't Go

If you missed the 2013 White House Correspondents' Dinner, you weren't alone - Tom Brokaw abstained from the event as well this year.

Believe it or not, you both actually missed a pretty good show. Barack Obama was remarkably funny, delivering genuinely witty jokes that betrayed spot-on comic timing.

"Some folks still don't think I spend enough time with Congress. 'Why don't you get a drink with Mitch McConnell?' they ask," Obama said. "Really? Why don't you get a drink with Mitch McConnell?"

Conan O'Brien was also on hand to deliver a few zingers. Among Coco's funniest jokes of the evening was this jab at Chris Christie, who took it like a sport:

"I'd like to acknowledge that earlier this evening, there was some confusion with the seating chart. For a moment, someone accidentally sat Governor Chris Christie with the Republicans. That was awkward, and I apologize," O'Brien said.

Legendary newsman Tom Brokaw was notably absent this year, having previously derided the White House Correspondents' Dinner for the gaudy, star-studded gala it's become in recent years. As the Washington Post reports, it wasn't the attendance of Ozzy Osbourne or even Larry Flynt that put him over the edge:

"The breaking point for me was Lindsay Lohan," Brokaw told POLITICO during a recent interview in his office in the NBC News Rockefeller Plaza headquarters in New York. "She became a big star at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Give me a break."
