Call of Duty: Ghosts: PS4, Xbox 720 Versions Confirmed (Video)

On April 26, we reported that the latest Call of Duty game titled Call of Duty: Ghosts was rumored to be revealed on May 1. Well, on Wednesday Activision announced the "next generation" of the series would be arriving soon, and for new consoles like the PS4 and Xbox 720.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be arriving on Nov. 5 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but the company also declared that it'll be released on next generation platforms. While it didn't explicitly say the game would land on the PS4 and Xbox 720, it's pretty clear that will be the case.

Additionally, the press release states that more footage of the game, outside of the live-action teaser trailer (watch it below), will be unveiled at Microsoft's Xbox 720 unveiling on May 21. Redmond may get to show it off first, but you can bet a PS4 version will be detailed soon after.

"We are consistently thrilled with the overwhelming response received from critics and consumers alike to the Call of Duty series, which has firmly established its home on the Xbox 360 with the game's largest and most engaged community," said Don Mattrick, president of the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft, in the press release. "With Call of Duty: Ghosts, we have no doubt that our longtime partners, Activision and Infinity Ward, will raise the bar higher than ever before for this incredible franchise."

As for the game itself, the name Call of Duty: Ghosts may be a bit of a surprise for those expecting another Modern Warfare moniker, but Activision claims Ghosts will feature "all-new" gameplay. The teaser trailer is certainly different, showcasing numerous warriors throughout time, such as knights and samurai.

"Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we're not resting on our laurels," Mark Rubin, executive producer of developer Infinity Ward, said. "We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can't wait to share them with our community."

The Call of Duty franchise has become a huge money maker for Activision, but according to GameSpot, the console transition to PS4 and Xbox 720 later this year is causing the company to lower its sales forecast compared to last year's entry, Black Ops II.

"There is increased volatility this year due to the ongoing console transition, which makes predicting the future more challenging than during normal years in the cycle. For Call of Duty, consistent with our past practices, we are planning for the mainline release in Q4 to be down versus 2012," Activision Blizzard CFO Dennis Durkin said during a conference call in February.
