iPhone / iPad Game Courtesy Of Ellen DeGeneres Available: Heads Up!

Heads up, if you are a fan of iPhone games and Ellen DeGeneres, there is a new download in the app store for you.

One of DeGeneres’ favorite games to play on her talk show with celebrity guests involves putting a card on her head with a word. The guest must give her clues to help her guess the word.

Apparently it was a big enough hit with viewers to warrant making an iPhone game out of it.

The producers of the Ellen show contacted Impending, an iPhone app development studio, to develop the game back in October. Thursday, the game was released in Apple’s App Store for a mere $.99.

“Big news! I’ve got a brand new game! It’s called ‘Heads Up!’ and you’re absolutely gonna love it,” DeGeneres’ tweeted from her official account Thursday.

Heads Up! has an average four and a half stars rating out of five from 123 ratings.

To play the game , one player chooses a category (movies, animals, music, etc.), then holds the iPhone up to his/her forehead, the word facing out so other players can see it.

Once either the word is guessed or time runs out, the app brings up a new word for the next player.

Even more interesting is that your iPhone automatically takes a video of the game session that you can share with friends or “Send to Ellen” in the hope the producers will pick your video to show on the air.

“We have 700 videos uploaded already. We’re getting a video a minute, it’s pretty crazy,” said Daniel Leary, digital producer of The Ellen DeGeneres Show and creator of the app.

A variation of the game was famously played in a scene from Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-nominated film Inglourious Basterds.
