'Nightwing' Up Next To Bat Changing Story For DC Universe

You'd wonder if DC still has the time to create more of its comic book adaptation of heroes to big movies like Wonder Woman, Justice League, The Batman, and whatever numerous Suicide Squad spin-offs are pending with so many sequels and prequels.

Though, Deadline has been announced that The LEGO Batman Movie's Chris McKay is in discussions to direct a Nightwing movie, with a screenplay by Bill Debuque, who penned the Ben Affleck-starring movie The Accountant.

Nightwing - A Former Name Of Robin But Others Use It Too

Nightwing is former Robin, Dick Grayson, though the name bewilderingly has its origins in the Superman comic series, with Grayson being enthused to take up the name after crossing paths with the vigilante cover of the same name Superman uses.

This could be DC's attempt to skirt the need to introduce 'Boy Wonder' the introduction of Robin into their current unyielding cinematic universe sequence; though Nightwing's certainly more fun-loving in the comics, his adult persona and darker philosophy could certainly work here.

The Movie Will Be The Comics' Continuation

The Nightwing movie would suggest that the DCEU will follow a similar continuousness to the one in the comics. McKay and Dubuque must answer the big question: what has Nightwing been up to this whole time? Since we can assume Grayson has been Nightwing for a while by the time of Batman V Superman, the DCEU should explain where the acrobatic Cerberus has been all this time.

Now, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did seem to suggest that Robin had been killed by the Joker, but this was never legitimately confirmed to Dick Grayson; in fact, Warner Bros. may have unintentionally slipped it by a former Robin, Jason Todd. Otherwise, McKay's hiring could point to DC's turn in direction on the way to creating a less persistent, more fun universe - something the studio itself has mentioned they're aiming for - though there's still questions as for how radically things might vary in the future without breaking the sense of continuity.
