HTC One Comes With MicroSD Card Support In Japan

The recently launched HTC One is unquestionably one of the most-popular Android smartphones around. The company launched the handset with 32/64 GB storage option and no option to expand the memory; however, Japanese carrier KDDI is offering the HTC One with microSD card support.

The Japanese version of the HTC One is called the HTC J One and all hardware specifications of the handset match with the international and U.S. versions of the smartphone.

According to an Engadget report, the Japanese HTC J One supports microSD memory cards up to 64GB. Unfortunately, this storage expansion option for the HTC One variant will be limited to Japan and will not be available international and U.S. versions anytime soon.

However, a previous Engadget report suggests that even the Chinese version of the handset has a microSD card slot. The Engadget report indicates "As we found out at HTC's Beijing launch event on Wednesday, the Chinese variants (802w, 802t and 802d; ¥4,888 or about $790 for 32GB) do indeed have a removable cover for access to their dual SIM slots and microSD slot."

In the U.S., the 32GB version of the HTC One is available via major carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint. Verizon is expected to launch the handset soon. However, the 64GB variant of the handset is exclusive to AT&T.

HTC One's arch rival Samsung Galaxy S4 is launched with 16/32/64 GB internal storage with the option to expand further to 64GB using a microSD card. As such, the HTC One lags behind in this category for smartphone buyers who are looking for more storage option with a microSD card. The lack of additional storage options in HTC One gives the Galaxy S4 an edge in the smartphone space.

However, for customers looking for lesser storage space in their handset, the option to expand may be one of the secondary criteria to buy a smartphone.

If you have bought the HTC One are you happy with the storage space?
