LG Optimus G2 Prototype Caught On Camera

An image of an Optimus G2 prototype by Korean smartphone manufacturer LG Electronics has been leaked online and if rumors are to be believed, the successor of Optimus G, the quad-core device that served as the framework for the production of the Nexus 4, is coming with some impressive specifications.

The LG Optimus G2 is said to support LTE Advanced (LTE-A) technology. The LTE-A is the evolution of the LTE network that further extends the speed and bandwidth possibilities.

The latest rumor suggests that the LG Optimus G2 will not only be LTE-A capable but will also have a very potent quad-core 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU. It is also expected to have a 5.2-inch full high-definition screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Other rumored specifications include a 13-megapixel camera and a 2GB RAM.

Consumers in South Korea will start to enjoy LTE-A this September and that should boost communication and internet speed in the world's most wired country.

LG has also released a "save the date" teaser with the tag line "ImaGinaton Begins." The invitation that is making its round on the Internet shows a slim side profile of a smartphone with some bright colors bursting from its screen. The invite summons the media for an event on May 30 in Macau.

The invite did not clearly say what smartphone will be launched but hints of a new G Series unit. LG fans might be hoping for the official release of the LG Optimus G2 but that might be odd given that the Optimus G Pro was just launched. However, it is also possible if the Korean brand is following the footsteps of Samsung that has positioned a more premium smartphone next to its bigger phablet devices.

Fans of LG smartphones in the United States must not be too excited, however. If indeed the event at the end of the month will see the launch of the Optimus G2, it will still take a while before reaching stateside. The newest LG smartphone will most likely follow this release cycle that was used by its predecessor.
