‘The Fate Of The Furious’ Holds On To Top Spot; ‘The Promise,’ ‘Unforgettable’ Bomb At The Stills

It has been a high and wild ride for "The Fate of the Furious" these past two weeks. Overall, this Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham blockbuster film has shattered the records during its first weekend when it opened with more than $532.5 million gross at the stills. While it has slipped in its second week by 61 percent, it still tops the race with $38.7 million. Unfortunately, "The Promise" and the "Unforgettable" bombed at the stills raking only $4.1 million and $4.8 million respectively in their first weekend.

It Has Grossed Close To A Billion Dollars To Date

To date, "The Fate of the Furious" has grossed more than $908.4 million globally. This is the eighth installment of the franchise. It stars the trio of Diesel, Johnson, and Statham along with the other members of the "Furious" team sans Paul Walker who died on Nov. 30, 2013, in a car crash. This time around, Cipher, a new villainess played by Charlize Theron, manipulates Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and turns him against his own team.

Surprisingly, Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russel) has to get the help of Ian Shaw (Statham), the arch enemy of Luke Hobbs (Johnson) to team up with the "Furious" team to bring down their former team leader. This might have intrigued global fans to inducing them to spend their hard-earned dollars to see how the producers of "The Fate of the Furious" has whipped the story into a logical end. Unfortunately, it appears that the story plots of "The Promise" and the "Unforgettable" are not so mind-catching that theater goers chose to stay home.

It Could Gross Over One Billion Dollars On Its Third Week

By the way, the cash register is ringing, it appears that the producers' gamble for "The Fate of the Furious" has paid handsomely. Some analysts are speculating that by its third week, this blockbuster hit will surpass the $1 billion mark. If this film maintains its hold at the top, pundits say it might topple down "Star Wars: Episode One" at the tenth place of the highest grossing movies of all time, domestically. Sadly, "The Promise" and the "Unforgettable" are nowhere near this mark.
