'The Winds Of Winter' Release Date Delayed; George R.R. Martin Focuses On 'Game Of Thrones' Season 8

Just after revealing that George R.R. Martin is still working on the highly anticipated novel, “The Winds of Winter”, it seems like he has taken another break from it. Reports say he has to focus on working on the last season of “Game of Thrones” this time.

Early this month, George R. R. Martin revealed and confirmed that there will be five successor shows to the highly acclaimed HBO television series, “Game of Thrones”. Aside from that, he is also working on these prequel spin-offs while still working on the last two novels of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. He admitted that in light of this, he deeply wished he could clone himself to multitask and get some sleep in between.

Martin has revealed before that he has planned on releasing the sixth novel, “The Winds of Winter” in 2017. Then there were speculations that it would be released sometime before or after the airing of “Game of Thrones” Season 7. However, recent news has it that Martin will not be able to release the said novel this year. It has been further revealed that “The Winds of Winter” will most likely be postponed to next year as Martin has halted writing on the novels to work on the eighth and last installment of the “Game of Thrones” television series.

Stars of the show have shared before that the production and filming for “Game of Thrones” Season 8 will take place as early as September this year, which is as soon as the seventh season ends. Martin has to work closely with the last season because unlike the first six seasons of the show, Seasons 7 and 8 have no published novels to rely on. The show runners of the “Game of Thrones” series have already disclosed that they will deviate from the original novels’ story but will have the same ending. Nevertheless, Martin needs to work alongside them to get the stories straight.
