Nokia Lumia 1020 to launch in August?

Rumors of the Nokia EOS a.k.a the Nokia Lumia 1020 have been circling in the smartphone space quite frequently. The Finnish company is expected to launch the handset in the U.S. at an event scheduled for July 11 in New York and reports suggest that Nokia will also unveil the handset for the UK market sometime in August this year.

A CNET report reveals that "The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be bringing its 41-megapixel PureView camera technology to the UK" as confirmed to the site by "a telecoms industry insider."

The site further notes that its source wasn't able to give the exact date of release or price of the handset in the UK. However, the report estimates that "it's being officially unveiled at an event in New York on 11 July" and chances are that it will "hit shelves roughly a month later." Incidentally, the Lumia 925, which was the Nokia's last major smartphone release, took a month to make its way to the UK consumers as well post the U.S. launch.

AT&T was the first U.S. carrier to offer the top-end Lumia 920. Recently, Nokia launched the Lumia 925 for T-Mobile and the Lumia 928 for Verizon. With the launch of the Lumia 1020, AT&T will have another high-end Windows Phone 8 (WP8) powered handset in its smartphone portfolio.

The Lumia 1020 will be the first WP8 handset to come with the 41-megapixel PureView technology in tow. Nokia first introduced the technology in its 808 PureView handset back in 2012; however, the 808 PureView ran on Nokia's Symbian software and not the Windows Phone platform.

Customers who took a shine to the Nokia Lumia 920 should also like the Lumia 1020 as leaked pictures indicate that the upcoming handset has close resemblance to its predecessor. If rumors are to be believed, then the Lumia 1020 will also have a polycarbonate shell and will be available in various colors just like the popular Lumia 920.

Customers in the UK will be happy enough to lay hands on a top-end camera smartphone like the Nokia Lumia 1020. July 11 is just a few days from now and we should expect that Nokia officially takes the wraps off the Lumia 1020 and confirms the availability of the handset in various markets.
