Apple iOS 15.4 to Release Next Week: Face Mask-Friendly Face ID, Tap to Pay Feature, and More

Apple Event just finished wrapping up in today's event. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced numerous things users will watch out for in the Apple ecosystems.

Apple announced the release of its iPhone SE, new and exciting originals for Apple TV, and the release of the most awaited iOS 15.4.

Apple's iOS 15.4 in Beta

Apple will be releasing its 4th update of the iOS 15, the iOS 15.4. The latest iOS has been in beta since January of this year, after a long wait, it will be released next week.

iOS 15 was released last year together with the latest iPhone 13.

Apple has not specified a specific release date, but it is possible that it will be made available as an update starting on March 18. It is speculated to be available on the same day as the release of Apple's new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro with the new alpine green color.

Users will first need to register for Apple's Beta Software Program, which can be found here. Afterward, download the configuration profile from Apple once they have been imported into the program.

Then, by going to Settings > General > Software update and selecting Download and Install, users should be able to find the most recent beta version of the software.

In addition, the alpine green iPhone 13 Pro and the new iPhone SE will both be available with iOS 15.4 already installed.

However, it is important to note that the iOS 15.4 release next week is still in beta mode. The only significance is that the public will be given the liberty to download if they want to.

Face Mask-Friendly Face ID

Through the help of iOS 15.4, a far more improved Face ID will be available to users. There have been numerous leaks and speculation from the Apple community that talks about a better Face ID. The rumors are indeed true!

The Verge reported that even if the iOS update is in beta, the Face ID recognition while wearing a mask has been reportedly working extremely well.

With the new update, users should have a much easier time unlocking their iPhones while wearing a mask. To avoid repeatedly typing in their passcode or have an Apple Watch strapped to their wrist to open their devices

Apple's Tap to Pay

Another feature that has been rumored before is the Tap to Pay feature coming to iPhones. The Apple Event confirmed just that. It will come in as a feature in the new iOS 15.4.

iOS 15.4 will transform compatible iPhones into contactless payment terminals, allowing users to make contactless payments with their iPhones.

This may result in merchants using their iPhones as a kind of digital cash register, potentially replacing Square's card readers designed to plug directly into iPhones.

It is possible to make payments through the feature using Apple Pay, as well as NFC-enabled credit and debit cards and other digital wallets.

Apple's Universal Control

Universal Control has been one of the features Apple users have been looking forward to using for a long time now. It was first reported to release last year, however, Apple stated it will be delayed until this year's spring. Lo and behold, Universal Control will be released in iOS 15.4 beta. CNET reported that the feature will be in public beta alongside the Monterey OS 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4 updates.

iOS 15.4 Adding 37 New Emoji

Numerous users have been accustomed to using emojis in their everyday messaging. The iOS 15.4 update will not disappoint as it will release a total of 37 new emojis to try!

It is reported that there will be 7 more smiley emojis, a kpop heart sign, saluting half face, heart hands, pregnant people, and more.
