Sony is testing a new 1440p resolution on its PlayStation 5 gaming consoles.

Sony launched a beta test for selected users for their most recent update to PS 5.

The game console company is rolling out a new PS5 system software beta that includes 1440p support, gamelists, and new social features to enhance the users' gaming experiences and make connecting with friends easier on PS5.

This update is packed with features that are designed to improve the user's experience. It is a compilation of recommendations from the community-requested features that Sony has received since they launched PlayStation 5.

Sony PS 5 1440p Resolution

Sony has begun testing 1440p resolution compatibility for its PlayStation 5 console, a capability in the console which has been greatly anticipated.

The Verge reports that testers will be able to get a new PS5 system software beta today, which will include 1440p support and all the new features released for beta testing.

The newly added 1440p video output option will provide owners of the PS5 the ability to select this resolution on TVs and monitors that are compatible with it.

The Verge stated, "If games support 1440p, then native 1440p output will be supported, but otherwise, 4K games will benefit from improved anti-aliasing by supersampling down to the 1440p output."

In the screen and video part of the PS5 dashboard, users who have the beta version of the software will be able to check to see if the HDMI-connected monitor they use supports 1440p resolution.

Sony has issued a warning that the Variable Refresh Rate feature on the PS5 will only function at 1080p and 4K resolutions, and not at 1440p.

Sony's Other Features

Sony did not just launch a new resolution, it also included a slew of options. For now, these updates will only be available to qualified beta testers. However, Sony clarified that the goal is to roll out this feature in their global community.

Since these updated features are still in beta, some features might not see a global release of the final revision or some features might see changes.

With that, here is the list of features that will be released, according to Sony.

  • PS 5 Gamelists

This feature is intended to help players organize their games more easily. From the main game library, users can construct gamelists that can hold up to 100 games.

There is a total maximum of 15 gamelists, and disc, digital, and streaming games can all be added. The game list feature functions more like folders.

  • 3D and Stereo Audio

Users are now able to listen to and contrast the differences between stereo and 3D audio on the same screen, after which they can select the mode that best suits their needs.

  • Accessible In-progress Activities

Ongoing activities will be displayed prominently at the top of the game center when resuming a game. This is done to make it as simple and quick as possible to come back to the point where you left off.

  • Joinable Game Notifications

Gamers can now directly join in a game by clicking the notification of the invite.

  • Easily View Profiles

Players can now read their new friend's profile in Accepted Requests after accepting a friend request in the Received list.

  • Share Screen

Players can now request that their party members launch Share Screen to watch their games. Simply go to the voice chat card, choose the party member to whom they want to deliver the request, and then click [Request Share Screen].

  • Send Voice Messages and Stickers in Game Base

Players now have the ability to send voice messages and stickers to their respective groups through the Game Base card.
