Samsung's Android 13-Based One UI 5 Beta: Where and on What Device Did it Launch?

Participants of the One UI 5 beta can now check out the user interface and customizable features before it is fully released.

On Sunday, Samsung Electronics launched its One UI 5 open beta program, which is now available to users of the S22 series in countries such as the United States, Germany and South Korea. Users of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra in other regions will also get a taste of the Android 13 based One UI 5 beta in the coming months.

Launching just ahead of Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10, the One UI 5 beta offers an update with a range of new customization features, improvements on notifications, and security and accessibility capabilities, a release on the Samsung Newsroom said.

The One UI 5 beta also builds upon Android 13's newest theming options, providing users with up to 16 preset color themes based on one's wallpaper and 12 more color variants for the device's home screen, icons, and quick panels. The company's new beta for the Samsung Galaxy S22 and other devices in the series also showcases a new way to stack similarly-sized widgets on top of one another to create a more organized look and feel.

What Else Can Users Expect from One UI 5 Beta?

In the press release, Samsung Executive Vice President and Head of Software Platform Team of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business Janghyun Yoon recognized the users' yearning "to create their own individual mobile experience," which led the South Korean company to highlight customization and "greater control" in the One UI 5 beta. Janghyun added that they were seeking to incorporate user feedback to create a better experience for Samsung Galaxy S22 users, as well as users of the other devices in the series.

Participants of Samsung's Android 13 based One UI 5 beta will notice some new accessibility features, such as a Magnifier tool that utilizes the device's camera to zoom in on real-life objects and text and have the phone read the keyboard input aloud, The Verge reported

With the new Android 13 based One UI 5 beta, Samsung Galaxy S22 users can enjoy new notification settings that require app developers to ask users for permission before sending notifications. It's a great step forward to creating a better mobile experience and preventing disruptions on one's workflow every day.

Interestingly, the One UI 5 beta also enables Samsung Galaxy S22 users to set their preferred language on an app-by-app basis, which is great for speakers of multiple languages. The Android 13 based beta provides access to a redesigned security dashboard that scans the device for any potential issues.

More Changes Expected from Samsung's Android 13-Based One UI 5 Beta

The exciting new One UI 5 beta offers a string of other features. According to 9to5Google, the beta now improves on the ways the user can change sound and vibration settings with regorganized menus. Photo enthusiasts will now be able to capture high-quality photos and video through the new icon in Pro and Pro Video mode, as it provides insights on how to use the lenses and controls. Users will love to use the more responsive zoom bar that lets them maneuver the camera with just one hand.

Those who are interested in participating in Samsung's Android 13-Based One UI 5 beta can do so by registering through the Samsung Members app. Meanwhile, Samsung fans are eagerly awaiting the Unpacked event on Wednesday, which will reportedly unveil a range of new devices such as the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Z Fold 4, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Buds Pro 2.
