Was Disney+ Series Obi-Wan Kenobi Originally Supposed to Entirely Focus on Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker?

Disney+ became the first company to release the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

However, the streaming platform was not part of the original plan. The series was first adapted by the studio of Kathleen Kennedy at Lucasfilm.

A trilogy of movies based on the eponymous Jedi sheltering a young Luke Skywalker from the Tusken Raiders on Tatooine was planned for Obi-Wan at Lucasfilm.

Unfortunately, it received negative feedback from fans, forcing the studio to shelve its next films in search of a more effective remedy.

When Disney+ came along, Obi-Wan was immediately given the chance to tell lengthier storylines through television series.

The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was portrayed by Ewan McGregor and traveled across the galaxy to help a younger version of Leia Organa, who was portrayed by Vivien Lyra Blair, was the primary focus of the series that was made available on Disney+. However, the show almost exclusively focused on Obi-Wan and Luke.

According to Comicbook, during the FAN EXPO Boston, Ewan McGregor said that the show's storyline originally revolved around him and Luke.

McGregor stated, "It was always going to be that, and that was one of the genius moments where everyone went, 'Wait a minute,' and then changed it."

McGregor went on to talk about his experience of doing the show, saying that the beautiful thing about the whole cast, Disney, Lucasfilm, and all of the people involved is that they try really hard not to let anything bad happen just to protect the viewer's experience of seeing it for the first time. McGregor's comments were made in reference to his time spent working on the show.

He noted that ever since the company's inception, both Disney and Lucasfilm have placed a significant amount of importance on the fan experience.

Kathleen Kennedy has stated that the studio has discussed the possibility of producing a second season of the program due to the positive response from fans, despite the fact that the show was initially conceived as a limited series.

Kennedy added that he understood the reaction of the supporters because the majority of the fans gathered together and had such an amazing time.

Kennedy said, "So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we'd have to really answer the question why?"

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2

The Star Wars prequel trilogy co-stars are brought back together in the Disney+ series 17 years after the release of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in 2005. According to Comicbook, the series reveals Obi-Wan and Darth Vader's first meeting in ten years will likely have a season two.

Both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are excited about the prospect of playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again in the future.

Lucasfilm has released the six-episode limited series of Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, director Deborah Chow and head writer Joby Harold have hinted that the titular Jedi may return for a second season of adventures in a galaxy far, far away.

After ending his nearly two-decade hiatus from Star Wars, Ewan McGregor spoke to GQ about the possibility of a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was obviously intended as a solo tale, but he genuinely hopes to do another season of the show. McGregor said, "If I could do one of these every now and again, I'd just be happy about it."
