Adidas RPT-02 SOL Solar-Powered Headphones: Here’s What You Should Know

Adidas has created its very own solar-powered audio device.

The popular German sportswear developer has recently revealed its first solar-powered headphones that promise to be light, washable, and long-lasting.

The headphones are compatible with the company's headphone companion app to provide users the ability to control and customize their features.

Adidas RPT-02 SOL Features And Specifications

Adidas mentioned in its official online store and website that its solar-powered headphones, the RPT-02 SOL, can provide users with quality audio while working out and be environmentally friendly too.

The headphones' headband comes equipped with Powerfoyle from the Swedish company Exeger, which is a light cell material that converts all forms of natural and artificial light into battery life.

This flexible material means that the headphones can be charged indoors using all kinds of indoor light sources as well as in various light conditions, per Engadget.

Although the headphones support USB-C charging, it does not support quick charging. Despite this, Adidas claims that two hours is enough to fully charge the device.

While Adidas didn't disclose how long the headphones need to be exposed to sunlight to be fully charged, Tech Radar mentioned that a similar product, the Urbanista Phoenix, can provide three hours of playback for an hour under direct sunlight.

Urbanista's Phoenix earbuds use the same light cell material as the RPT-02 SOL.

In addition to its capability of being charged by any kind of light, it is also built in part from recycled plastics - half of the material that made the headphones came from recycled plastics sourced from post-consumer recycled PC-ABS and recycled nylon.

The RPT-02 SOL also comes with a battery life of 80 hours, allowing its user to enjoy quality audio for long periods without worrying about the battery.

Furthermore, the headphones' design is IPX4-rated, making them sweat-proof and splash-proof - good for any workout. However, this rating doesn't mean that the headphones are waterproof. As such, heavy downpours of rain must be avoided to prevent any damage to the headphones.

IN addition to being washable, the RPT-02 SOL's various parts can be detached from the headband as well.

To help users remove the scent of sweat or parts that have accumulated dirt over time, Adidas made the headphones' parts completely washable.

These washable parts also include the headphones' inner headband and ear cushions.

Lastly, the headphones come with intuitive controls using its control jog and find the best light to charge the headphones with through its light indicator.

It is also compatible with Adidas' headphone app, allowing users to manage their listening experience easily before going for a run.

In terms of design, the headphones feature a similar design to its predecessor, the RPT-01, which only provides half of the RPT-02's battery life.

Adidas RPT-02 SOL Price And Availability

The Adidas RPT-02 SOL is expected to retail for $229. However, interested customers may have to wait until much later in August as the headphones won't be available until Aug. 23.

The headphones can also come in two colors customers can choose from: Night Grey and Solar Yellow.
