HBO Max will Withdraw 36 Titles, Including 20 Originals, Due To the Merge with Discovery+

HBO Max is scheduled to pull out numerous titles from their streaming platform.

There will be a total of 36 titles removed from HBO Max, 20 of which are pieces of the media company's original content. The removal of these programs off the platform will assist in reducing the costs incurred by their company.

With this move, they will be able to decrease costs significantly by eliminating the programs that have a lower viewership in order to save money on residuals.

Even though a specific day and time for when the films would be removed from HBO Max have not been disclosed, the service will begin the process of deleting the titles beginning this week.

HBO Max: Removing Content

HBO Max's plans to remove the titles is stated to be due to the forthcoming merger they have with Discovery+. Both the HBO Max platform and Discovery+ are owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

According to Variety, a statement released by HBO Max stated, "As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and discovery+."

The spokesperson added that as part of their goal to materialize, it will involve removing some content from both platforms.

Although it is worth noting that the streaming platform has made the decision to remove various pieces of content before; this is not the first time it has done so.

Additionally, 20 of the original shows that were available on HBO Max will be removed from the platform.

These shows include the teen drama "Generation," the animated anthology series "Infinity Train," and the reality dating show "12 Dates of Christmas," which is focused around the holiday season.

However, the company has not made an announcement on whether they will be distributed on DVD or made available through rental services.

This recent removal of content holds the highest quantity of titles to be deleted from the site.

HBO Max Merge with Discovery+

As reported by Mashable, Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of HBO Max, recently made the announcement that the streaming service, which is well-known for offering a wide variety of high-quality content to its users, would merge with Discovery+, a streaming platform that focuses on reality TV.

The merger is anticipated to take place during the summer of 2023. Warner Bros. Discovery will initiate the process of integrating HBO Max with its corporate relative Discovery+ beginning in the United States. Under the banner of Warner Bros. Discovery, this will give rise to a unified, comprehensive streaming service.
