Nokia's first-ever phablet to be called Lumia 1520 (not Bandit), Aug. 28 debut?

As Nokia gears up for its press event tomorrow (Aug. 28) in Moscow, rumors pertaining to its first-ever phablet, dubbed the Bandit, are gaining momentum.

The latest buzz is that the impending Windows Phone 8-powered Bandit phablet from the Finnish company will be called the Lumia 1520. The new information is courtesy of well-known tipster @evleaks, who disclosed the name of the Nokia phablet on Twitter.

"Nokia Bandit = Lumia 1520," reads @evleaks' tweet from Monday, Aug. 26.

Given his past track record, @evleaks is usually spot on when it comes to leaks. Thanks to him, the Nokia phablet now finally has a name other than Bandit!

Rumors that Nokia has a 6-inch phablet in the works have been making rounds for quite some time now. Recently, the Bluetooth certification filings of the phablet were spotted on Bluetooth Special Interest Group (BSIG) and had the model number RM-490.

In April this year, Financial Times had revealed that the Finnish company was working on a "Galaxy Note-like phablet," which would mark Nokia's foray into the phablet space.

"Those with knowledge of the company's plans said that the most innovative will be a device that can work as a phone and a tablet - known as a "phablet" - similar in size but with more advanced specifications to Samsung's popular Galaxy Note. This will be the Finnish group's first move with Lumia into the larger screened mobile smart devices market, where rivals such as Apple and Samsung have already established a dominant position," reported the Financial Times at the time.

Additionally, in July, we reported that Nokia was gearing up to launch a 6-inch phablet dubbed "Bendit." The codename was later reported to be "Bandit" and not "Bendit" per reports and The Verge's sources let on that the first-ever Nokia phablet, as well as the first WP8 phablet, would sport a massive 6-inch 1080p display.

The Lumia 1520 has been rumored to house a powerful quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. The Full HD phablet is speculated to tout a polycarbonate body and will likely head to U.S. carrier AT&T. The Lumia 1520 is also rumored to feature a powerful 20-megapixel primary camera.

It remains to be seen if Nokia introduces the WP8-powered Lumia 1520 phablet at its alleged press event in Moscow, especially since several reports have hinted at a September launch for the device.
