Newman Says Apple Music Songs will Keep on Growing

Apple Music now offers more of the tunes that you are looking for as the platform expanded its selection to 100 million songs. In addition, the company said that every day, they will be adding 20,000 more tracks to service, according to iMore.

‌Apple Music‌'s global head of editorial, Rachel Newman said in a press release: "Twenty-one years on from the invention of iTunes and the debut of the original iPod, we've gone from 1,000 songs in your pocket to 100,000x that on Apple Music. It's phenomenal growth by any metric."

Moreover, Newman noted that with the 100 million songs, Apple Music now provides more music than a person can listen to in a lifetime.

The services now offers more music than any other platform, according to Newman. The expansive song library of Apple Music is now simply the biggest collection of music.

Newman further added that the 100 million songs will keep on growing. Likewise, it will exponentially multiply.

The number is significant for Apple as it represent the "tectonic shift in the business of music making and distribution over these past two decades."

The 100 million milestone could possibly give Apple Music an advantage over its competitors, as per Engadget. According to rival Spotify, it only has over 80 million tracks, as of writing.

However, we are not sure whether Apple's edge from its rival can prompt customers to switch to Apple Music.

Out of the 100 million songs, we do not know how many songs are exclusives. These exclusive music can be appealing to some users, but some who are happy listening to album cuts won't be swayed.

Apple Helps Democratize the Music Industry

According to Newman, there are very limited albums being released back in the 1960s.  During the said decade, there are only 5,000 new albums released each year.

At present time, any artist can make and record a song, and eventually release it worldwide. This is true for the 167 countries and regions on Apple Music.

Now, the catalog was made even better with over 20,000 singers and songwriters delivering new songs to Apple Music.

According to Newman, the 100 million songs of ‌Apple Music‌ signify that the platform has helped democratize the music industry.

Apple has launched Apple Music Today. This was done to mark the 100 million songs milestone.

Apple Music Today will feature a single song every day. With this, context and information will be provided as the platform delves into its history.

In addition, an app dedicated to classical music will be released by the end of 2022 in an all-new app called "Apple Classical."

A research showed that Apple Music was the second most used music streaming service worldwide as of January 2022. While Spotify remains number one, it only have 80 million songs in its library.
