Original Director, Producer are Reuniting for the New Silent Hill Movie

Another big announcement surprised the fans during the Silent Hill Transmission, a broadcast that updates on upcoming games and merchandise.

Christophe Gans, director of 2006 "Silent Hill" film, and its producer Victor Hadida are reuniting to create the movie's sequel "Return to Silent Hill," as per Engadget.

During the event, it was announced that a new movie adaptation is officially in the works. Konami is bringing the franchise to theater once again with a film based on Silent Hill 2 game.

'Return to Silent Hill' is in the Works

There was no teaser shown during Silent Hill Transmission since the project is still in the development stage.

Instead, a handful of storyboard images and pieces of conceptual artwork were showcased. During the event, Gans talked mostly about the plot of the game itself.

"We decided to go back to the best of these stories. The film tells the story of a young guy coming back to Silent Hill, where he has known a great love, and what he's going to find is a pure nightmare," said Gans.

According to Gans, although the film is going to feature a fresh take on the story of Silent Hill, it will remain faithful and respectful to the story.

Konami's Digital Entertainment Assistant Producer Rui Naito said that the film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 will be "the catalyst for the revival of new Silent Hill games," as per Polygon

According to Naito, it was Hadida who first reached out to Konami. Hadida proposed to return to the franchise with Gans, who was equally interested to return to direct as well.

Afterwards, they pitched a script. Fortunately, Konami received it well. According to Naito, it was the film's pitch that gave him the idea to revive the classic games.

Gans Returns to Direct 'Return to Silent Hill'

"Return to Silent Hill" is Gans and Hadida's collaboration after the two worked on 2006 "Silent Hill" box-office movie.

Naito stated that the pitch from Hadida prompted Konami to proceed to a Silent Hill 2 remake to go along with the new movie adaptation.

Silent Hill 2 is a 2001 survival horror game. It was developed by Team Silent, and published by Konami. The game was originally made for the PlayStation 2. This is the second installment in the Silent Hill series.

Silent Hill 2 follows the story of James Sunderland, a widower who travels to the town of Silent Hill after getting a letter from his dead wife, telling him that she is waiting for him in the said town.

"Return to Silent Hill" is Gans' second time working in the Silent Hill universe after directing the first film adaptation.

In 2012, M.J. Bassett directed "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D." Unfortunately, it was poorly received causing the series to have a cinematic stop.

Besides the new film and the remake, Konami's Silent Hill Transmission livestream also announced four games in development.

According to iTechPost, three of the games, Silent Hill Townfall, Silent Hill Ascension, and Silent Hill f, are taking place in the same universe.
