Modder Replaced Fallout: New Vegas’ Mr. House with Elon Musk

While we can appreciate the games we play by themselves, it's admittedly more fun when you can add modifications that create a whole new experience for us. Some can be assistive and some are just hilarious, such as modders replacing a video game's infamous business giant with a known tech billionaire.

Elon Musk as Mr. House

If you've played Fallout: New Vegas, then you'll be familiar with the character Robert Edwin House. The mustached CEO of the New Vegas Strip is one of the central characters in the game and serves as a quest giver.

Although he's not necessarily a villain in the game, he can be quite terrible if you choose not to work with him. In a lot of ways, he's similar to the Twitter, now X owner, Elon Musk. Both excel in the field of technology and are one of the wealthiest in their time.

Seeing a handful of similarities, a modder who goes by NoUsernameSelected decided to create a mod that replaces Mr. House with Elon Musk. He used various AI tools to generate the likeness of the Tesla CEO as well as his voice.

Through Stable Diffusion, the modder created a character that looks eerily like Musk. He then used ElevenLabs to add in the tech billionaire's voice and used OpenAI Whisper to transcribe them and put them back in the game, as mentioned in Kotaku.

NoUsernameSelected stated that he was "more or less self-taught" using EleutherAI to learn about the AI tools that he had used. It took him a few dollars for the API and subscription costs, but also said that it was surprisingly easy to create.

Aside from the AI tools, he also used the audio editing software Audacity to make the voice sound more robotic, which is how the original Mr. House speaks in the game. Listening to the audio, even with the added effects, the voice really does sound like Musk, even copying the way he speaks.

For those who want to try the mod out, it can be downloaded in NexusMods. The creator recommended installing it with Mod Organizer 2, although users can choose anything they're more comfortable with.

Why Elon Musk?

Based on the tech leader's current and previous business ventures, it's easy to see how Musk can be similar to Mr. House. He founded a tech company, RobCo Industries at the age of 22, which put him on the short list of wealthy people in the world.

Musk in his late 20s, also cofounded PayPal, which gained him his millionaire status. Since then, he has ventured into other businesses, just like Mr. House. Some would say that arrogance is also a quality that both share.

The tech billionaire is also the CEO and co-founder of SpaceX, a company that manufactures spacecraft. Robert House happened to also have a controlling interest in REPCONN Aerospace, a production company in the game that specialized in rocket manufacture.

Even without these close similarities, it would still be fun to see Elon Musk as the infamous rich person in Fallout: New Vegas giving you orders. As a gamer himself, it's likely that Musk would be more amused than offended by the mod.
