Nokia Released Two New Early-Tech Keypad Cellphones

There is an entire generation of users who never got their hands on a cellphone with a keypad lettering. Younger generations are now used to the QWERTY keyboard on their screens. For the old-timers out there who want a phone like they had before, Nokia will let you have it with its new releases.

Nokia 130 and 150

You may be old enough to understand the struggle of having to press a button several times to type in a letter. If so, then you've probably owned or used a keypad cellphone. During that era, Nokia was among the leading brands, and they are reliving that dream by releasing a new model.

The Nokia 130 comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, which is far from the touchscreen displays that smartphones now have. It also comes with a removable battery with a 1,450 mAh capacity, although don't be fooled, as it can last you weeks.

The phone has a 12-key number pad along with navigation buttons like the arrows, the select button in the middle, and four others for other functions like going back, viewing options, heading to the home screen, and answering calls.

Both are rated IP52, which means that they are dust and water resistant, which should not be confused with waterproof. Of course, for the sake of recalling the past, Nokia also added the Snake game which was also popular then.

The Nokia 150 has the same features as the Nokia 130, along with other additions. The former comes with a headphone jack so you can listen to music you've downloaded or the FM radio, which is already built into the system.

As for cameras, the Nokia 150 has a 0.3 MP VGA camera, so don't expect to take landscape shots and have it turn out with the same quality as a smartphone's. It can still come in handy. It was used for several years before, after all, and people liked it.

As mentioned in Gizmodo, both models have been rolled out since 2016, but the release is part of the phone's upgrade cycle. One downside is that it's not primarily available in the US, although you can easily purchase them abroad.

Why Purchase It?

If not for old times' sake, then maybe you can purchase it for other uses. For one, it's a good model if you want to keep a second phone number to separate contact for personal and business matters. It's a convenient phone fi you only need it for texts and calls.

It will also help you avoid certain distractions like social media or streaming services unless you find yourself playing Snake all the time. The phone is very limited in terms of apps, but it can provide you with the necessary functions.

It's also not a hassle to charge, since unlike smartphones, it doesn't take up a lot of power. It would also be simpler to replace its battery once it dies out. Since it's removable, you can just swap in a new one.
