'The Nightmare Before Christmas' (1993)
The animated classic film "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is a masterpiece made by Tim Burton. Directed by Henry Selick, the film revolves around the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, Jack Skellington.
The stop-motion animation was able to capture two holidays in one: Halloween and Christmas. As Skellington gets tired of his Halloween routine, he discovers Christmas Town and is enchanted by how different it was and takes on the challenge of being the Santa Claus. Kids will learn the important lesson of being honest with themselves and appreciate the beauty of each holiday.
'Frankenweenie' (2012)
Originally created by Burton in 1984, the short story was remade in 2012 as a black-and-white feature film. The film tells the story of Victor Frankenstein who shared a close bond with his dog, Sparky. However, an accident killed Sparky leaving Frankenstein emotionally wrecked.
With some knowledge about electricity and reanimation, the young boy tried to bring Sparky to life which proved to be successful. However, it took a different turn when other kids attempted to experiment with their pets as well. This film depicts how valuable is the bond between kids and their pets.
'Muppets Haunted Mansion' (2021)
Based on the famous "The Muppets," the film is a Halloween-special production that was released in 2021. This film is better to watch after watching the original film or have some background with the Muppets. However, it could still be enjoyed by kids who do not care about the background story as this is only a special feature.
The Great Gonzo takes the role of a daredevil while he is accompanied by Rizzo the Rat. The duo takes on a Halloween adventure as they try to spend one night at the haunted Gracey Manor, which is based on Disney's Haunted Mansion theme park attraction. During their quest, they also encountered other Disney Characters and other Muppets, making it a good crossover feature.
'Monsters, Inc.' (2001)
The beloved 2001 Pixar and Disney film is one the must-watch for kids this Halloween. Set in an imaginative world where monsters exist with the sole purpose of scaring human children, makes it the perfect movie to watch with your kids.
The story revolves around the two monsters, Sully and Mike Wazowski, as they routinely scare children through closet doors. However, things changed for the duo as they got a new companion, Boo who is a human child. The story is a perfect depiction of friendship and the creative imagination of kids.
'Spooky Buddies' (2011)
While this film is not as popular as other films, "Spooky Buddies" is part of the "Air Buddies" film series which introduces a group of talking puppies who are out on an adventure. In this film, the puppies embark on a journey filled with magic and mystery.
The Buddies accidentally unleashed the evil Halloween Hound which plans to terrorize the world using a magical crystal. The puppies must work together and seek help from others in order to stop the evil Hound from destroying the world.
