YouTube's Copy Video Frame

A couple of months ago, YouTube rolled out its "copy video frame" feature, allowing viewers to snap a screenshot from the video without using any third-party app to capture the frame. Many users appreciated the new feature as taking screenshots requires the right timing to snap the frame without the presence of additional elements like the pause icon, video title, and more.

However, upon the release users can only copy and paste the frame from the YouTube video. Saving it is different as it requires users to send it somewhere before it gets saved on the PC. Fortunately, it seemed that the developers had figured out a way for copied frames to be saved as per Bleeping Computer.

The new feature is now available to Chrome and Edge Canary build. According to X user Leopeva64, the feature was added by Chromium developers a few days ago. However, it seems that the feature is rolling out gradually as it is still not visible to some users.

Chromium Developers Plan for New Feature

Bleeping Computer also reported that Chromium developers are also planning another feature that will enable users to "Search video frame with [a specific search provider]." If this pushes through, it could be a big help for people to locate the original video source, especially for videos that are being reposted.

Moreover, this type of development shows significant improvement in how viewers can interact with video content online, like YouTube. Most importantly, it offers a better user experience for everyone with its flexibility and adaptability to the needs of the viewers.

Meanwhile, YouTube has been openly testing various AI tools that could potentially elevate the viewing experience on the app. On the other hand, the company is also actively experimenting with ways that would benefit its content creators.
