Apple's Satellite Emergency SOS

When the iPhone 14 was launched, Apple introduced a new safety feature called the Emergency SOS via satellite. One year after its availability, the company announced that it would be extending the feature for free for one more year.

"We are so happy iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users can take advantage of this groundbreaking service for two more years for free," VP of worldwide iPhone product marketing, Kaiann Drance announced. Despite being only a year older, the feature has proven to be an effective tool to save lives from around the world, as per Apple.

The Emergency SOS via satellite works as a helping hand for people in need in case they find themselves outside of an area with Wi-Fi or cell coverage. The free trial will be available to iPhone users who were able to activate their device before November 15. They must also be in an eligible country or region.

Apple Promotes Safety Assistance With iPhones

Aside from that, the company also launched Roadside Assistance in partnership with the American Automobile Association (AAA). The feature was launched on the same day as the iPhone 15, making it a free service to the latest model users for two years.

While iPhone users will still have time to enjoy the free safety service, there is a possibility that these services will be a paid feature in the following years. According to CNBC, if Apple decides to charge for these it will generally boost the recurring revenue of the company.

Previously, Apple reported $22.31 billion in sales during the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.
