Kwazy Cupcakes

During the first season, episode 19 "Tactical Village,"  Gina was called out by Captain Holt for playing a game called Kwazy Cupcakes. Although he showed disinterest in the game, the Captain became hooked on the game and tried to be discreet about his gaming addiction.

Holt vs. Wunch

The professional rivalry between Captain Holt and Deputy Chief Madeline Wuntch, played by Kyra Sedgwick, is a long-time feud that occurs multiple seasons. Whenever Wuntch appeared at the precinct or when her name was mentioned, Holt would immediately come up with a hilarious remark. Often, his response is borderline atrocious.

The rivalry set a big moment for Holt's character, making Wunch his official nemesis in the series. He was also shocked to the core when he found out that she died and found it hard to accept that she was gone forever in his life.

Cheddar

Cheddar is Holt and Kevin's beloved corgi, who often makes an appearance on the show. His relationship with Cheddar makes his character more human and humorous as he is not afraid to show his soft spot for the dog.

The dog is a symbolic character in the show and is often referred to as Holt's family member. Cheddar also participates in the Halloween heists and his allegiance is not solely for Holt. Other precinct members have tried to employ the corgi for their tricks.

Disco Strangler

The Disco Strangler is also part of Holt's list of nemesis. He was a criminal in the '80s that was known for strangling a woman. He was later captured and arrested by Holt. Since then, he had an obsession to the point that he suspected something wrong when the Department of Corrections reported that the Disco Strangler had died.

Later in the episode, it was proven that Holt was right and that the Disco Strangler had indeed escaped on foot. He was tracked down in the street of New York City, senile, and had lost his hearing.

Coming Out as Gay

Holt joined the New York Police Department in 1997 and was promoted right away after joining the force within one month. However, it took him 10 years before he came out as gay.

Prior to being a captain, Holt faced discrimination, profiling, and homophobia for many years. Despite that, he remained true to who he was and eventually got the chance to marry Kevin, the love of his life.

"Every time someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place," Captain Holt during the "Game Night" episode, making it his most unforgettable line throughout the show.
