Samsung’s Galaxy Ring Could Last Up to Nine Days Per Charge

We're at an age where we can purchase wearable technology that can monitor our vitals. A lot of people have purchased smartwatches as they can also be used to navigate through compatible apps. Now, Samsung has unveiled a smaller device that could last much longer per charge.

Samsung Galaxy Ring

When the Galaxy Ring was announced, people were intrigued by the idea of having wearable tech that would be less bulky than a smartwatch. Now that the battery life has been revealed, it seems that a smart ring might also be better in terms of longer usage before charging.

Several sources say that upon testing the Galaxy Ring, the device can from five to nine days, depending on how it is used. With minimal active functions, it can last more than a week, but based on other devices, the estimated battery life might be an optimistic approximation.

According to The Verge, the Oura Ring was also advertised as being able to last up to seven days of active use. However, it only managed to run for about three to five days when the SpO2 monitoring was enabled and was run continuously.

Naturally, functions that are running at all times will deplete the battery faster. It's still unknown whether the Samsung Galaxy Ring will provide the option to toggle between off, periodic monitoring, or continuous monitoring.

It was also mentioned that the battery life may rely on the size of the ring. Given that the smart ring comes in various sizes to fit the user better, smaller ones might offer a shorter battery life. Still, it beats having to charge smartwatches every day.

Since smartwatches come with digital screens and run apps as well, they have a much shorter battery span. They usually last about a day or two before the user has to recharge the device again. Of course, it could still depend on the model.

A Question of Comfort and Function

When it comes to the comfort factor, users might find that a ring will be less bothersome than a watch, which can be more prone to breakage due to its screen being exposed, and the fact that it is positioned on top of the user's wrist.

Seeing as it is smaller, it can also be more appropriate for monitoring sleep as it would be more comfortable to wear overnight. Since it has a longer battery life, the user won't have to worry about charging it by morning before they leave their homes.

Samsung Research America's Matthew Wiggins said that the device is a "powerful and accessible health and wellness device," and that it is meant to take the "possibilities of Samsung Health to the next level," as reported by CNET.

Samsung Electronics executive Hon Pak also stated that the approach of the tech giant in health tracking comes down to activity, nutrition, sleep, and stress, all of which can be monitored through the Samsung Health App.

There will be new features such as My Vitality Score and Booster Card, with the former meant to measure your physical and mental readiness. The latter will provide insights through the user's day about their previous vitals and statistics.
