Bluesky Rolls Out Open-Source Tool Ozone For Collaboration, Moderation

Bluesky, known as X's rival, launched its open-source tool called Ozone which will allow its users to collaborate and moderate in the platform.

The Ozone is open to individuals and teams that work and review content together within the network.

Bluesky Opens Additional Moderation Services for Individuals, Teams

Due to the open-sourcing of Ozone, Bluesky users will soon be allowed to run their independent moderation services that will be seamlessly integrated into the app. Users can create and subscribe to additional moderation services on top of what Bluesky offers.

"Our online experience doesn't have to depend on billionaires unilaterally making decisions over what we see. On an open social network like Bluesky, you can shape your experience for yourself," Bluesky wrote.

In addition, the company also detailed that Ozone was developed based on three principles: simple and powerful, user choice, and openness. Bluesky emphasized that the company pushing towards an ecosystem that will give opportunities for individuals to create their norms and preferences.

Bluesky Targets Stackable Moderation Systems

By default, registered users of the app will be subscribed to Bluesky's built-in moderation service. The social media is covered by a specific team that handles reports based on the community guidelines.

Bluesky announced its vision for a stackable ecosystem of moderation services. Through Ozone, users can install filters from independent moderation services and layer them on top of Bluesky's foundation.

The first stage of the rollout will be available on the desktop version of the app. The mobile app support will soon be available in the following weeks. Bluesky hopes to create a more customized experience for each user.

"Independent moderation services will let you and community builders further customize your own spaces, and open APIs will let developers evolve and innovate on these systems," the company added.
