The Android Wear-powered LG G Watch has received another price cut, as the smartwatch is now available for a reduced $159.99 from Best Buy.
The LG G Watch made its official debut back in June, when it arrived as one of the launch vehicles for Google's new Android Wear operating system for wearable gadgets. At the time, the smartwatch sported an initial price tag of $229.99, which many found to be a bit too steep.
The price of the LG G Watch has dropped to $179.99 since then, and a new price cut from Best Buy now brings the price down to an even more affordable $159.99, marking a $70 discount over the initial $299.99 price. LG has also released a new LG G Watch R in the meantime, sporting a circular display, and some believe that's why the rectangular LG G Watch received nother price cut.
As a reminder, the LG G Watch sports a 1.65-inch touch-enabled IPS LCD display with a resolution of 280 x 280, packs a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage capacity, boasts certification for both water and dust resistance, and comes with a 400 mAh battery. The smartwatch is compatible with Android devices running Android 4.3 or newer, and will provide notifications directly from users' paired smartphones.
"Most people check their phones more than 150 times a day. Often, it's to read a text, look at a notification, or get some other simple piece of information. That's a lot of time spent unlocking, swiping and entering passwords, when your hands could easily be free handling more important things," Google touted back in June, when announcing its Android Wear OS.
The LG G Watch aims to bring all necessary information to your wrist, delivering notifications at a glance and allowing users to get things done simply by saying "OK, Google."
While the LG G Watch is a very capable smartwatch, however, LG is currently in the process of releasing its new G Watch R globally. The round-shaped smartwatch will hit South Korea on Oct. 14 and reach Europe sometime next month, and it is also expected to become available in other markets worldwide.
