The Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact smartphones are in for a new treat, as Android 5.0 Lollipop is ready to start rolling out.
Sony has promised a while ago, back in October, that it will update its entire Xperia Z lineup to the new Android 5.0 Lollipop version, and the company is making good on its word. The Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact should start receiving the update momentarily, adding a slew of neat features and improvements to enhance the overall performance and experience.
In a new company blog post on Monday, March 16, Sony revealed that it has started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to both the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. As expected, the update will roll out over the air (OTA), which means that it will become available in stages. Even though the rollout begins today, March 16, it may take a few days for all devices to get the treat.
According to Sony, the update will first hit Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact devices in the Nordics and Baltics, with other markets and regions to follow afterwards. The company also reiterates its commitment to upgrading the entire Xperia Z lineup, adding that it will start delivering the upgrade to other devices in the series in roughly two weeks. Sony offered no other details at this point regarding the Lollipop update for devices other than the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, but said it will offer more information on its blog soon.
The Android Lollipop upgrade brings a number of new features to the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, and will also include new features from Sony. With the latest update, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact owners will be able to enjoy a cleaner, fresher look based on Google's Material Design, revamped notifications and lock screen with fully customizable settings, multi user profiles and guest mode, Android for Work, better storage control, improved customization, and more.
