Pokemon Go News And Update: What Do The New Symbols Mean?

Pokemon Go update has recently rolled out and fans had experienced the game's newest features and improvements. After the said update, some fans noticed symbols that appear on the screen whenever they are catching Pokemon in the wild. Thanks to our dedicated fans who figured out what the mysterious symbol mean.

According to Heavy, the new discovered symbols are somehow related to the game's new additional feature, the Medal System. The mechanics of this new feature is to unlock the present medals in the game. The medals are associated with a certain Pokemon specie. That means unlocking one of them will grant players a catch bonus which then depends on the kind of medal they had unlocked. For instance, if a player unlocks the fire Pokemon medal, he/she will then be given a boost on the catching rate for the next encountered fire Pokemon.

Based on the report, the symbol appeared on a particular Pokemon encounter is the type of medal that will give you a bonus. Based on the screenshot from Reddit, two symbols appeared on Pidgeotto. These two symbols are the 'Normal' and 'Flying' medals. That means whenever you catch the Pidgeotto, the player benefits from the effect of the two medal types.

The new Medal System gives players an edge on catching Pokemon even if their level are still low. In addition, it will not be a burden to the players encountering similar Pokemon specie over and over again. Currently, common Pokemon spawns, like Pidgey and Rattata, give advantage to the players on catching high level Pokemon in the future.

To monitor the progress of these medals, just go to the player profile screen, scroll down and select one of the medals. The medals are classified into three which are the bronze, silver and gold. Unlocking these medals would require you to catch 10 Pokemon for bronze, 50 for silver and 200 for gold.
