Apple has all but announced that the 2016 MacBook Air will be released this late October. With that information announced, a rumor has it that the 2016 MacBook Air will be the last of its kind.

According to a written article at Gotta Be Mobile, Apple has not significantly changed the MacBook Air in years, and now it seems like the public will be able to see the new changes made by Apple that makes the MacBook Air look more like the MacBook than the device we see on shelves today. 

The article also points out that there is a very high probability that Apple could simply kill the MacBook Air line to focus on the 12-inch MacBook and the more powerful upcoming 2016 MacBook Pro. This notion has made people think that if Apple is trying to make the MacBook Air similar to the MacBook, then there will be no difference between the two, adding fuel to these rumors.

But though the rumor holds a high chance of it being true, Apple has shown no signs or desires to slim down the production line of the MacBook Air, let alone discontinue it.  According to Gamenguide, the 2016 MacBook Air might be the last of its kind simply because Apple will focus on the "Pro" and the vanilla MacBook line instead.

Rumors are also high that Apple will launch the 2016 MacBook Air with the 2016 MacBook Pro at the same time. The 2016 MacBook Air is rumored to be installed with Intel's Skylake Processor; thus, giving it a big bite in terms of processing prowess and even enabling it to stand on even grounds with its more robust cousin, the 2016 MacBook Pro.

With rumors stating that the 2016 MacBook Air might be the last of its kind, avid supporters of Apple's beloved entry-level laptop can only wait and see what the Cupertino-based giant has in store for its massive fanbase.
