Google Daydream VR Headset To Release Next Week Offering A Buffet Of Games

Last month, Google announced that they will be rolling out an awesome VR headset offering a plethora of services like virtual front row seats for concerts, field trips to almost everywhere, and of course, games. Today, Mike Jazayeri, Product Management for Google VR, has posted that Daydream View will be hitting the shelves next week.

Google's Daydream VR's aim is to make the user very comfortable with its lightweight fabric and "inspired by what you wear." The device is paired with a controller that the company claims to be easy and intuitive. The headset is also announced to be compatible with Android phones and as of this writing Google Pixel pops up as the first confirmed phone on the list. The device will roll out in stores by Nov. 10 in selected areas. As of this writing, I am pretty certain that the VR platform wars will soon rage as Microsoft is also doing their own thing.

What games are offered for the Daydream VR headset?

There are lots of games for Daydream VR, and I have picked up some games that are interesting for my taste. Let's start with Danger Goat, a wacky animated game that utilizes 3D side-scrolling for its main gameplay, or at least that's what I saw on the video trailer. On the official site, the description says something about a runaway goat who needs to go thru hundreds of dishonorable traps getting in its way. Your actions are to slide, glide, and even catapult the goat towards freedom. The genre is said to be a 3D puzzler game from the creative minds of N Dreams.

A sort of tower defense slash shooter game goes by the name of Hunters Gate, it says on their page that you need to defend the town named after the game, or the other way around, from demon invasion. You can also return the favor by leaving your town and invade the demon home town. Based on the trailer, the graphic assets look medieval featuring demons sporting armors and casting out spells. The trailer also describes it as a "fast-paced arcade shooter reinvented for VR". The game is created by Climax studios.

Wonderglade by Resolution Games, joins the Daydream videogame library. The game features carnival themed games like Tiny Tee Golf and Tip N Tilt Racing. The description says it is a game where you can teleport to a growing theme park. Based on what I see on the trailer, it's some sort of a light hearted themed theme park where you can go visit all the rides or mini-games within the sandboxed park. Not really my type, but this is good for children and I currently have a 9-year-old who loves games as well.

One thing I really want to dig is Need for Speed: No Limits VR; the description says that players race for supremacy in the "first Need for Speed title made for VR." With awesome realistic graphics, it feels like you are on a cockpit, I mean driver's seat ready to wreak havoc on the streets. The screenshot features a first-person view of a driver being chased by a police chopper so I assume there would be a Hot Pursuit mode for the game. Pretty neat.

Each of the game trailers have a section where it says "Only on Daydream" which would indicate that the games are exclusive for the VR device. As of this writing, it is uncertain if there would be a cross-VR compatibility. The complete list of upcoming official games for Google Daydream can be found here.
