With the year coming to an end already and no announcements have been made yet, it is safe to say that the book could be released sometime in 2017.

The famous author George R.R. martin previously said that "Winds of Winter" is set to be released this year. As originally planned, the book was supposed to be released alongside the airing of "Game of Thrones" season six, a TV series that is adapted from the book. However, he retracted the statement earlier this year, admitting to slow writing progress which is highly understandable. Nonetheless, the fans are still anticipating its release since they have been waiting six years for this to come.

With "Game of Thrones" season seven coming in the middle of 2017, there have been reports that "Winds of Winter" be released prior to the season premiere. Martin had previously said that a huge part of the book's storyline was already done, making it possible for it to be released next year as presumed by the fans.
