‘Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale' Sets U.S. Premiere In March 2017, More Details Announced

One of the most awaited anime film adaptations in Japan is finally coming to the United States. It has just been announced that “Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale” will be heading to North America next year. Aside from the date of release, more details have been confirmed regarding the animated movie.

Aniplex of America Inc. has just announced that “Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale” has been slated to debut in U.S. theaters in March 2017. It will be making its premiere screening on March 1 at the Grauman’s Egyptian Theater located in Hollywood, California. After that, it will be released on March 9 in other cinemas all over the United States.Tickets for the premiere screening and the succeeding schedules has been available for purchase through the movie's official website since Nov. 15.

Back in November 2016, an English version, an English-subbed version rather, of the trailer was dropped for promotions in North America. The movie will be released in its original Japanese audio format but will be provided with English subtitles. Eleven Arts will be responsible for the distribution of the said animated film in North America.

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale” is mainly distributed by Aniplex and the said movie will make its official debut on Feb. 18, 2017 in Japan. Directed by Tomohiko Ito, the “Sword Art Online” movie is based on the anime adaptation and original manga series created by Reki Kawahara that has sold over 19 million copies worldwide. The said film will take place after the anime series’ second season wherein the main characters namely Kirito and Asuna along with their friends will be playing a new game called “Ordinal Scale” (OS). The movie will center on their adventures in the new game, which is based on a new augmented reality device, as they meet familiar foes and go against new ones.

Sword Art Online” was first introduced to the world in April 2009 when the publication of the light novels began. It is currently still ongoing and has already produced 18 volumes while it has also spawned an anime adaptation of two seasons totaling 49 episodes already since July 2014. The reception of the said anime was highly favorable that a number of productions have even started to air similar plots.
