WWE Monday Night Raw Results: The New Day Sets Record-Breaking Spot As 2016 Champions

The New Day, the pro wrestling stable formed by Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, has finally broken a world wrestling record since their July 2014 debut. They are now declared as the longest reigning tag team champions in WWE history.

Beating four teams in two different matches, the team gets to keep the Raw Tag Team Championships title for the longest time. Their success in taking the title from Demolition, who had the WWE World Tag Team Championship for 478 days, has led to a record-breaking event and various opportunities.

A breakdown of their journey to their final win noted The New Day defeating Tyson Kidd and Cesaro for the WWE Tag Team Championship title. Since then, the group of three has continued to beat and rise above those who wanted to snatch the title.

The tag team has previously won over Cesaro and Sheamus leaving them with Gallows and Anderson to beat. However, the team interfered with the former team's match against Cesaro and Sheamus leaving the match to a "No Contest." Following the incident, it was announced that The New Day was set to defend their title from both teams scheduled in a triple threat match on the Dec. 12 episode.

In the said episode, The New Day retained the title but because of Stephanie McMahon being accidentally sprayed with champagne by Woods, the team was again set to a triple threat tag team match against Kevin Owens with Cris Jericho and Seth Rollins with Roman Reigns.

From there, The New Day successfully retained their title and beat their former contenders. The trio has been declared as the longest reigning title holders for the WWE World Tag Team Championship. As for Matt Hardy, he has offered The New Day to come to Apocalypto to provide further entertainment to avid wrestling fans.
